Advanced Legal Nurse Consulting

SERVICES FOR ATTORNEYS AND LAW FIRMS

Attorneys who handle medical malpractice, wrongful death and personal injury lawsuits on a regular basis have discovered the invaluable and absolute necessity of engaging the services of an experienced Legal Nurse Consultant (LNC). It can easily mean the difference between winning or losing your client's case. A Legal Nurse Consultant can also make a tremendous difference in the amount of damages awarded. Especially the right Legal Nurse Consultant. My name is Greg Stocks and I have been a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA) for nearly 20 years. Before that I was a paramedic and an ICU nurse. I have worked in world famous academic medical centers, rural community hospitals and even plastic surgeons offices, providing anesthesia to just about every type of patient imaginable. This has afforded me a wide experience in many medical specialties and practice settings. I know the health care system from every angle.
Interested in the law, I earned an Executive Juris Doctor in Health Law and discovered I was as much at home investigating medical malpractice claims as I was behind an anesthesia machine.

"Why hire a LNC when I can hire a physician instead?"

The first answer given most commonly is that a LNC is cheaper. While in most cases this is true, in my opinion it is the last  consideration if you are serious about determining all  vital facts and events relevant to  the interests of your client.  Physician specialists are just that...specialists and physicians.   The practice of anesthesia requires a thorough review of the medical record on each and every patient. It is what I do every day. Not just one or two sections of the record...ALL of the record. No other healthcare specialty does this as a matter of routine.

"The case is cut and dry, I just need the medical record organized."

I have found the majority of cases are not as "cut and dry" as they appear on the surface. A Legal Nurse Consultant should be retained as early as possible in the case. As a Legal Nurse Consultant with advanced training as a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist, I am fortunate to be able to bring the diversity of medical and nursing knowledge and skill required to practice anesthesia, and combine an understanding of the law and the process of litigation obtained with a Law Degree, together to offer a quality of service you will find unique and greatly appreciate. As many a lawyer has found out early on, things are rarely as they seem and the physician expert you hired the first week to evaluate the heart condition of the client, was wasted money once an experienced LNC discovered a hematologist was the real expert needed, or that a physician expert has limited understanding of the charting of nurses or respiratory therapists.

WHAT LAW MED CAN DO FOR YOU

                                                       Expert Witness Determination and Location

We have access to a nationwide network of medical and other experts. We can identify the experts you need to prove your case, and find the most qualified individuals.

                                                                        Screen Cases for Merit

Do not waste time and money hiring expensive experts before we look at your case! The earlier we are involved, the more efficient and cost effective your preparation will be. We provide a brutally honest case evaluation from both sides and back it up with science and real world experience.

                                                                   We Analyze Medical Records

We ANALYZE the entire record and are expert in determining whether records have been tampered with, altered, or are missing. We cross reference every procedure, medication, progress note, lab value, clinical study and more with the patient's condition, and plot this in a precise chronologic relationship. This results in a revealing global view of the care of the individual, highlighting failures and deviations from the standard of care.

Summarize, Translate, and Interpret Medical Records

Medical records can be voluminous. Unlike expensive expert witnesses, we have a working knowledge of every item in the medical record, whether nurses notes, radiology reports, lab studies, or nutrition consults and progress notes....we look at every single piece of information. Often we identify issues and parties that others missed or never considered. We then present our findings both in language everyone can understand, and in a professional report that experts can rely upon, saving you time and money. Our causation charts quickly illustrate the foundation of your case.

                                                                         Timelines and Chronologies

We use a variety of methods and software to develop our dynamic chronologies, which may be minute to minute, and   present results that may be used as demonstrative evidence.

                                                                        Medical and Legal Research

With advanced formal training and experience in both the law and patient care, we can provide you with expert research in both.

 Assist with Discovery

From production of documents and interrogatories, to physical evidence and depositions, you will find us an invaluable resource. We attend independent medical examinations and depositions as requested, and help prepare your witnesses.

Interview Key Witnesses

We know what to ask and how.

Witness Preparation

Our case reports begin the process of Expert Witness preparation by highlighting the areas of concern and the related events. This saves expert preparation time...and saves you money. In addition, we meet with and prepare your witnesses for deposition and trial, presenting questions the opposition is likely to ask.
